June 28 is Insurance Awareness Day – What You Should Know Before Buying Coverage

June 28 is Insurance Awareness Day and to celebrate we’re educating you on the vital elements you need to know before renewing or buying a policy for the first time.

There’s no “one size fits all” – The rate you’ll pay for coverage can vary dramatically depending on certain situations. Things like your age, the neighborhood you live in, and your driving record can all bump your price up or down. Order a copy of your driving record to make sure it’s accurate so you aren’t over-charged because of an error or typo.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage is worth it – While insurance is required by law, not everyone has it. If you end up in a crash with an uninsured driver, you could be left holding the bag for pricey repairs and medical bills.

Get what you deserve – Many auto insurance companies offer discounts for clean driving records, good students, or military families. However, the insurance representative may “forget” to tell you about these. Inquire about anything you might be eligible for.

Renewing? Review first – Many times we auto-renew our policies without looking at them – and insurers know it. In a lot of cases, the options you opted out of on the first go-round will mysteriously make it back onto your policy when renewed, or your rate may go up without explanation. Always review your policy before re-upping.
