Tikit Bicycles Recalled Because of Fall and Crash Risk

A dangerous product that has recently been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has already injured several people, including one who required stitches. If you were injured by a defective product, you have a right to seek compensation for damages from the company that made it. Additionally, if you are one of many people who have been injured, you may be eligible to file a class action lawsuit.

Tikit Bicycle Recall Announced

On November 14, 2012, the CPSC, along with Green Gear Cycling, announced the voluntary recall of “Bike Friday Tikit Folding Bicycles.” The stem of the bike’s handlebars may break, causing the rider to lose control and fall or crash.

The recall includes all models of the Tikit folding bikes, which comes to about 3,800 units. The bicycles came in several different colors and can be identified by the “Bike Friday Tikit” brand decal on the side of the frame.

Recovering Damages if Injured by a Defective Product

If you suffered injuries after an incident involving a defective product, you will need to show that your injuries resulted from a defect.

For this reason, the usual standards of liability may not apply in defective product cases. In dangerous product claims, you need to prove “strict liability,” which enables you to collect compensation without having to prove that the manufacturer was actually negligent. If you were injured while using a product for its intended use, you should be entitled to compensation from the manufacturer.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission holds standards for bicycle frames, such as that, “The fork and frame assembly shall be tested for strength … in accordance with the frame test, § 1512.18(k)(2), without visible evidence of fracture or frame deformation…” Therefore, a defective handlebar frame is in violation of CPSC standards.

A Bicycle is Not Just a Toy, It Can be a Dangerous Product, Too
