The Winn-Dixie grocery store chain is voluntarily recalling some organic apple juice due to concerns it may contain mold.
The recall pertains to 64-fluid ounce Winn-Dixie Organic 100% Apple Juice, which was shipped to Georgia and four other states.
The product is being recalled as a precaution because it could contain levels of “patulin,” a by-product of mold that grows in fruits and vegetables, that exceeds U.S. Food and Drug Administration limits, the federal agency said.
The recalled apple juice has expiration dates between January 15, 2014 and March 25, 2014.
No incidents have been reported to Winn-Dixie as of yet.
In addition to Georgia, the recall involves stores in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi.
The recalled item is: Winn-Dixie Organic 100% Apple Juice. The UPC is: 2114021626. The recall affects the 64 fluid ounce size.
“We encourage customers in possession of any of the recalled item to immediately discard the product or bring it back to their store,” said Brian Wright, senior director of Winn-Dixie Corporate Communications. “Customers who have purchased the product may visit their neighborhood Winn-Dixie to request a full refund, no questions asked.”
