The symptoms of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) are similar to polio, including paralysis. That is quite a price to pay to avoid a seasonal flu.
Statistics released in March 2014 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services revealed that the flu vaccine remains the top vaccine causing injuries, which are being compensated through vaccine court. The crippling disease, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, remains the top injury for which compensation is being awarded as a result of the flu vaccine.
GBS is a disorder where the body’s immune system attacks parts of the peripheral nervous system. The first symptoms of this disorder include varying degrees of weakness and/or tingling sensations in the legs. In many cases, this spreads to the arms and upper body. These symptoms can increase in severity until certain muscles can no longer be used. Sometimes total paralysis develops, which can be life-threatening if breathing, blood pressure or heart rate are involved. It is unknown why GBS affects some people and not others. Fortunately, it is not a contagious condition.
The March 2014 report showed that from 11/13 through 2/14 a total of 128 cases were filed in vaccine court, 52 of which were compensated. 40 judgments were settled, which represents less than one-third of the cases filed, 27 were for injuries due to the flu vaccine, the majority of those were for GBS. For some reason, these statistics are never reported in the pro-Pharma mainstream media.
The National Institutes of Health estimates one of every 100,000 people will contract GBS. The NIH may revise the numbers to one in every 50,000.
