November 15, 2010 – Centerreach, NY – According to a report from Eyewitness News in New York, a head-on crash involving 2 vehicles killed 2 people in Suffolk County. The car accident occurred in Centerreach on Thursday, November 11, just before 7 p.m. According to police, the driver of a sedan was traveling east on Middle Country Road, west of Wood Road. The driver of the sedan apparently lost control of the vehicle, crossed a double yellow line and then crashed into a white passenger van containing a driver and passenger. Police reported that both people in the sedan were killed. The driver of the van was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center. His condition is unknown; however, the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. It is also unknown what caused the driver of the sedan to lose control of the vehicle. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, there were 1,156 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in the state of New York.
