December 2, 2010 – Following communications with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), J & H International has initiated a voluntary recall of its Kitchentrend Stainless Steel Carafes because of a burn hazard. The defective carafes, which are similar to metal pitchers made for carrying hot liquids, are built with handles that could detach from the body of the carafe. If the handle detaches, the potentially boiling liquid within the carafe could spill, creating a burn hazard to consumers. No reports of incidents involving the defective carafes have yet been received by J & H International. The recall affects Kitchentrend 1-liter stainless steel carafes with the model number P0930-X02. The model number is located on the carafe’s packaging. The affected carafes are insulated with a chrome-plated plastic top, a black plastic base and are lined with glass. About 36,000 carafes have been affected by this recall. The defective carafes were manufactured in China and sold at Macy’s retail stores nationwide and on macys.com from September to October 2010. They were priced at about $20. Consumers may return the defective carafes to the place of purchase to receive a full refund. If you have been injured by this or another defective or recalled product, you may be entitled to compensation for your suffering. Contact an experienced product liability lawyer today.
