December 1, 2010 – Following communications with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), General Wax & Candle Company has initiated a voluntary recall of its Silver and Gold Metallic Taper Candles because of a fire hazard. The metallic paint on the candles is extremely flammable. The paint can ignite suddenly, which creates a risk for fire, property damage, and injury to the consumer. No incidents involving the candles have been reported to the company thus far.
Candles with the following UPC codes are affected by this recall:
- 609032492687; and
- 609032492694.
The UPC code can be found on the plastic packaging of the candles. The affected candles are about 10 inches tall and are either gold or silver in color. The tapered candles sold for about $2 a piece. About 33,000 candles have been affected by this recall. The defective candles were manufactured in the United States and sold nationwide at Yankee Candle Stores between October and November of 2010. Consumers are urged to cease use of the candles immediately. The candles may be returned for a full refund to any Yankee Candle store.
