December 3, 2010 – MTD Consumer Group Inc., in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has initiated a voluntary recall of its Cub Cadet Volunteer utility vehicles because of an injury risk to consumers. The front lower ball joint could dislodge from the vehicle. If the ball joint detaches, a loss of steering could result. This could cause the vehicle to crash and the user to sustain a variety of crash-related injuries. No incidents involving the Cub Cadet vehicles have been reported to MTD. The model numbers affected by this recall include:
- 37BB475H710;
- 37BC465D710;
- 37BC466D710;
- 37BK466D710;
- 37BK46GD710;
- 37BM466D710;
- 37BM467D710; and
- 37BM46GD710.
The serial numbers included in the recall range from 1C290Z50001 to 1D280Z50007. Both the model and serial numbers can be found on a plate located beneath the driver’s seat. All vehicles affected by this recall are 4-wheel drive, gasoline-powered vehicles with “Cub Cadet” printed on the hood. About 200 vehicles are affected by this recall. The affected models were manufactured in the United States and sold nationwide at Cub Cadet dealers between August and September of 2010. Consumers are advised to cease use of the vehicles immediately and contact a local Cub Cadet dealer for a free repair.
