December 3, 2010 – Brooklyn, NY – As reported on the news website Greenwichtime.com, a 23-year-old man has been arrested for the death of a Brooklyn yeshiva teacher. The teacher, Moshe Berkowitz, was killed in a car accident on Monday, November 29th, when an oncoming car swerved into his lane and collided with his vehicle. The accident occurred while Berkowitz was driving on Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn. According to New York City police, the 23-year-old who was responsible for the accident has been arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide and drunk driving. After the accident, the 23-year-old was treated for minor injuries. Berkowitz was also taken to an area hospital, where he later died. In addition to the criminally negligent homicide and drunk driving charges, the 23-year-old also faces charges for running a red light, police say. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, there were 1,156 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in the state of New York.
