January 11, 2011 – North Hills, NY – According to a report from NBC New York, a New York City municipal sanitation worker was fatally struck by a car. Angel Roldan, 39, was killed on Tuesday, December 21 while he was standing outside his place of employment, a Bronx sanitation garage. An unidentified motorist struck and killed Roldan. Police were investigating the fatal pedestrian accident with no charges against the driver expected to be filed. Roldan, who has worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation for 11 years, is survived by his wife, Rena, who works as a traffic enforcement agent for the New York police department. In addition, he is survived by an 18-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son. Both the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association and New York City Mayor Bloomberg offered their condolences to Roldan’s family, friends and co-workers. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, there were 1,156 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in the state of New York.
