February 3, 2011 – Chicago, IL – According to a report by The Chicago Tribune, a Chicago center for disabled children has been found responsible for the death of a 14-month-old girl. State regulators have said that staff members at the center waited 2 days to contact a doctor after the girl was found to have a serious infection in July. When a doctor was finally contacted, the girl was taken to a hospital for medical attention, where she died just hours later of septic shock. The center, Alden Village North, was also cited for 21 other violations, such as failing to investigate allegations of neglect. Alden, a managed care facility, has had similar issues to this one in the past. Over the last 10 years, 14 children have died at the center. The center was also cited 6 times for failure to provide sufficient outings for its residents.
