March 18, 2011 – Staten Island, NY – According to a report from NY Daily News, a Staten Island fire truck accident on March 9 left one man dead and 14 others injured. Former Special Olympics athlete Eric Perry, 51, was a passenger in a Lifestyles for the Disabled van when it was struck by an FDNY fire truck at the intersection of Richmond Road and Burgher Avenue. The other 8 van occupants and 6 firefighters suffered injuries in the collision and were taken to Staten Island University Hospital.
