April 1, 2011 – Approximately 4.8 million units of Lasko box fans have been recalled because of a risk of potential fire hazards from an electrical defect. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a voluntary recall of Lasko and Galaxy branded box fans sold between July 2002 and December 2005. The defective models have been found to pose a fire hazard because of an electrical failure in the fan’s motor. To date, Lasko Products Inc. has received reports of 7 fires sparked by the defective box fans. This included 2 house fires and 1 barn fire that caused extensive property damages. No injuries have been reported. The defective models include Lasko models 3720, 3723, and 3733. Galaxy models 4733 with the date “2002-03” or “2003-04” are also included in the recall. The model number is stamped or printed on the bottom of the fans. These models were sold at mass retailers across the nation and manufactured in the United States from July 2002 to December 2005. Consumers who own a defective model can contact Lasko at 877-445-1314 to request a free fused plug safety adapter.
