April 15, 2011 – Manhattan, NY – According to a report from My Fox New York, a fare argument ended with a Queens cabbie running over 2 passengers. Mohammed Azam, 27, of Queens, got into an argument with 4 men who had hailed his cab on at 4 a.m. on Sunday, April 3. Richard Kelly, Joe Hladki, Frank Lembo, and Anthony Loreto Jr. were in Midtown Manhattan on West 53rd Street and Sixth Avenue when they flagged down Azam. When the men asked to be taken to the Bronx, the cabbie refused. The argument caused Azam to drive to a local police station. When Azam was told by New York Police that he couldn’t refuse the customers’ request, he jumped back into his cab and sped away. While Azam sped off, he struck 2 of the passengers, Lembo and Loreto. Lembo’s condition is unknown; however Loreto was taken to New York Hospital. He suffered a serious skull fracture and was placed into a medically induced coma. Later that day, Azam was arrested at his home. Police are charging him with leaving the scene of an accident and vehicular assault.
