Long Island Hit and Run Accident Kills 1 Bicyclist, Seriously Injures Another

April 15, 2011 – Long Island, NY In a report from Eyewitness News, a Long Island hit and run accident claimed the life of one bicyclist and seriously injured another.  Police continue to search for the driver who struck 2 men riding a single bicycle on Hicksville Road in Bethpage. The tragic accident occurred on at approximately 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6.  The vehicle was described as a white box truck, which continued to head south on Hicksville Road after the hit and run.  Both bicyclists were taken to the hospital, where one victim, who was not identified, suffered internal injuries and was listed in critical condition. The other bicyclist, Stephen Marano, 32, of Bethpage was pronounced dead at the hospital.  While any type of accident can be traumatic, a hit and run accident is especially difficult, as the responsible party cannot be held liable for injuries. If you or a loved one has suffered serious or even fatal injuries in a pedestrian accident, you should immediately consult with a New York injury lawyer.  A lawyer will work hard to help you fight for your personal injury claim so you can focus on recovery and getting your life back. Additionally, if a loved one was killed as a result of a pedestrian accident, you may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim.  According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, there were 1,156 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in the state of New York.
