April 25, 2011 – Several styles of infant bed-side sleeper products were recalled on April 5th by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission after 10 reports of entrapment issues. A press release from the CPSC in cooperation with the manufacturing company Arm’s Reach Concepts Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of nearly 76,000 units that have a flaw with the fabric liner. When the liner is not used or attached properly, the infant can fall from the mattress to the bottom of the sleeper. So far 10 incidents of this hazard have been reported where the infant becomes trapped between the edge of the mattress and the side of the sleeper. Luckily no injuries or deaths have resulted from the defective product. Parents who own an infant bed-side sleeper, also known as a “co-sleeper” by Arm’s Reach, should check the model number and manufacture date printed on the sticker of one of the product’s legs. The manufacture dates effected are between September 1997 and December 2001. The model numbers included begin with 8108, 8133, 8111, 8112 and 8199 for originals, as well as Universal model 8311. These sleepers were sold nationwide at Burlington Coat Factory, Babies R Us, and several other retail stores from September 1997 through December 2001.
