August 5, 2011 – Manhattan, NY – A reckless vehicle launched off of FDR Drive on Saturday morning, July 16, landing on top of a taxicab below, near 23rd Street. The accident left 8 individuals injured. The reckless driver said he was cut off by another car, which caused his vehicle to swerve dramatically. His vehicle slammed into a guardrail, which then continued to fly off of the roadway. Police reported to the scene of the accident right away to find the taxi smashed by the large SUV. An eyewitness, from a local pool, stated that she saw the SUV flip over and crash onto the cab. She immediately called 911 when she saw people trying to get out of the cars. In this Manhattan car accident, 4 people were reported to suffer minor injuries while 4 others were sent to the hospital in critical and serious condition. At this time it’s unclear if a lawsuit will be filed for the accident. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, there were 1,156 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in New York.
