22-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in New York City Hit and Run

August 17, 2011 – NYC, New York – In a report from My Fox New York, a 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a New York City hit and run.  The fatal hit and run motorcycle accident occurred early Saturday morning on August 6, while the victim and a passenger were stopped at a red light on 12th Avenue and West 46th Street.  Kastriot Prelaj, 22, of New Rochelle, had just begun moving forward as the light turned green when he was hit from behind. The driver of the white Honda that struck the motorcycle sped off.  Then a second car, a 1995 Chevy, hit the motorcycle while it was in the road. Prelaj, who suffered serious injuries, was taken to Roosevelt Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His passenger was taken to Bellevue Hospital and listed in stable condition.  The driver of the Honda hasn’t been found but the driver of the Chevy, Eliyyas Northern, 22, stayed at the scene of the accident. Northern was then arrested for driving while under the influence.  According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, there were 1,156 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in New York.
