October 13, 2011 – Long Island, N.Y. – In a report from Eyewitness News WABC-TV New York, NY, a 17-year-old driving while under the influence ends up sending 5 teens and 2 adults to the hospital. The drunk driving accident took place Saturday morning, October 8, on Route 110. Matthew Ross, 17, of Farmingdale, was heading south on Route 110 at approximately 1:45 a.m., when he lost control of his car and collided with another vehicle at an intersection of Allen Boulevard. The car that he struck was driven by Tatiana Jennings, 23. She was intending to make a U-turn when she was hit from behind. Jennings and her passenger, Joy Robinson, 21, suffered minor injuries. Javior Rivera, 16, a passenger in Ross’ car, suffered serious injuries in the crash. Nicole Fiordicono, 17, and Amanda Horn, 19, were treated for minor injuries. All victims were transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow except for Ross and another passenger, Onofrio Cottone, 19, who were taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Islip. Their conditions are unknown. Police charged Ross with DWI and the accident remains under investigation. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, there were 1,156 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in New York.
