February 21, 2012 – According to a report from Eyewitness News 7, a second child has died during a routine dental exam. Now a criminal investigation is being launched as a result. If you’ve lost a loved one due to medical negligence, a lawyer can help you pursue a claim. Patrick Bamgboye, from Dental Health Associates in Irvington, New Jersey, had his license suspended back in 2004 when Kyneicha Pagan, a 6-year-old patient suffered a fatal seizure during a routine exam. The suspension of his license was based on the failure to:
- ensure proper emergency equipment was available;
- properly assess the patient’s condition; and
- obtain a medical history on the patient.
Pagan had cerebral palsy. This latest incident happened last week when Juan Quiej, 3 years old, was given local anesthesia during a routine dental exam and suffered cardiac arrest. The mother was present. Parents of both children are now asking for criminal charges to be filed. Medical malpractice can happen in many forms and involve various types of healthcare professionals.
