In a report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), a laceration hazard has led to the recall on Chicco Polly highchairs.
These highchairs are designed with pegs on the back legs to store a tray. There is a folding metal frame that provides storage and the seat reclines. There are several models being recalled, all of which were manufactured before Oct. 13, 2010.
The hazard with these highchairs is that if a child falls against or on the pegs, it can lead to lacerations or bruising. So far there have been 21 reports of children being injured.
Of those, four involved lacerations that required stitches or another form of closure. In one case a child suffered a scratched cornea.
These highchairs were sold at various retailers including:
- Shopko;
- Burlington Coat Factory;
- Toys R Us;
- Babies R Us;
- Buy Buy Baby; and
- through several online outlets.
Consumers should contact the manufacturer for a free repair kit. Until then, they are advised to store the tray on the pegs when it is not being used.
