Bicyclists are at a distinct disadvantage on our nation’s roadways. This disadvantage often manifests itself in tragedy, unfortunately. Recently, a 14-year-old boy was killed when a car hit him while he was riding his bike to school.
Details of the Accident
The Associated Press reports that the accident occurred on September 19, 2012 in Galen, New York, located in the central part of the state. The boy was riding his bike along the roadway at about 8 a.m. when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a Wayne County woman, 60.
The boy died at the scene. An investigation followed. The woman received a ticket for reckless driving and unsafe lane-changing. She will be in court to answer for these tickets on January 2, 2013.
