Pedestrian Accident in New York
Pedestrians are at a distinct disadvantage in a world dominated by highways and automobiles. This disadvantage was recently illustrated in a tragic event in central New York.
On Sunday, November 11, 2012, one person was killed and another was critically injured when they were both struck by a car in Kirkland, according to multiple media reports. It happened at about noon when two individuals were hit by a 2012 Nissan Versa on Route 12B. The Nissan swerved off of the road and struck the two pedestrians on the shoulder.
New York Pedestrian Accidents often Cause Serious Injury or Death
Both of the pedestrians were rushed to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital following the accident. The man, 55, was pronounced dead a short time later. The woman, 70, had to be flown to Upstate Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the Nissan, 74, remained on the scene after striking the victims. It is unclear what caused him to swerve and hit them. Whether or not charges will be filed is also unclear. The crash is under ongoing investigation by the State Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
