Choosing the right car for your family is a big decision. Not only are you sure to have preferences when it comes to size, color, and features, but safety ratings are probably at the top of your mind as well. The following provides a comparison of some of the best family cars on the market today.
2014 Chevrolet Impala
Kelley Blue Book named the 2014 Chevrolet Impala as one of its 12 top family cars for 2014. The car comes with just about every feature you could possibly want. Cost can run in the low $40,000s, but some models come in under $30,000.
Additionally, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the car a rating of “Good,” (which is the highest rating possible) on its crashworthiness. Its front crash prevention rating was called “Superior” with optional equipment. One of the downsides to the vehicle is that it may not be ideal for large families. It is also not a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS.
2014 Honda Pilot
The Kelley Blue Book also named the Honda Pilot a top family car for 2014. The 2014 Honda Pilot can be a good option for families too. For moms and dads who like to stay organized, the Pilot has some awesome storage features that are perfect for keeping the kids’ toys and snacks in check.
While the car is missing out on some of the more high-tech gear (like blind spot sensors), it has plenty of room for the whole family, has received a rating of “Good” from the IIHS for its side, roof strength, head restraint, and seat crashworthiness. However, it scored “Poor” on the small front overlap test and is not a Top Safety Pick.
2015 Honda Odyssey
If a minivan is what you need, the 2015 Honda Odyssey is the U.S. News most highly ranked minivan. The ranking is based on safety data, as well as reviews from drivers. It made the Kelley Blue Book list of best family vehicles for 2014.
With great acceleration, a comfortable ride, plenty of room, high safety rankings, and an affordable price, this van is not only one of the best minivans out there, it’s one of the best family vehicles in general.
Besides being a Top Safety Pick Plus, it’s equipped with fun high-tech equipment.
