December 1, 2010 – Meijer, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a voluntary recall of Touch Point Oscillating Ceramic Heaters because of a fire hazard. The problem is rooted in the oscillating mechanism of the affected heaters. The oscillating mechanism may short out, which could create a fire hazard for consumers. Meijer has so far received 2 incident reports regarding the heaters. Both incidents resulted in fires that caused property damage. No one was injured during either incident. The recall involves heaters under model number PTC-902, with serial numbers 35005-43008. The model and serial numbers can be found on a sticker underneath the heaters. All of the affected heaters are gray and/or silver in color, about 10 inches tall and have a screen across the front. About 6,700 heaters were affected by this recall. The affected heaters were manufactured in China and sold exclusively through Meijer retail stores in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio. The heaters were sold between October 2009 and October 2010, priced at about $25 per heater. Consumers are advised to cease use of the heaters immediately. The defective heaters may be returned to any Meijer location for a full reimbursement. To receive more information or to report an incident concerning the defective heaters, contact Meijer or the CPSC.
