November 23, 2010 – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), together with American Honda Motor Co., has recently recalled a series of Honda and Mantis Mini Tillers. The Mini Tillers may spring a gas leak, creating a fire hazard. The risk is created by a weak point in the tiller’s fuel tank. A rubber grommet within the engine’s fuel tank could crack. This would cause the tank to leak profusely and cause a fire. The following Mini Tillers are affected by this recall:
- Honda Mini Tiller (Model Number FG110, with serial numbers GCALT 1696948 through 1700567); and
- Mantis Mini Tiller (Model numbers 7262 and 7270 with serial numbers GCART-1165215 to 1171495).
The company is recalling roughly 6,150 Mini Tillers. All of the affected tillers contain a Honda GX25 mini 4-stroke engine, the serial number of which can be found on the engine itself, close to the fuel tank cap. Anyone in possession of a recalled Mini Tiller has been advised to contact a Honda Power Equipment dealer (for Mantis owners only) or a Honda Engine dealer. These facilities can replace the tiller’s fuel tank assembly with a non-defective model free of charge. If your Mini Tiller is registered, you will receive a notice by mail.
