In-Car Internet and Distracted Driving Accidents

According to PC World, a recent survey conducted by a Harris Interactive Poll showed that in-car Internet and connectivity devices are a major cause of concern. In fact, 76 percent of those who responded to the survey suggested that being able to use electronic devices in vehicles causes distraction and can be dangerous.

Car-makers, on the other hand, indicate that in-car connectivity may be used to reduce some possible dangers associated with the use of electronic devices in cars. For example, car makers argue that a driver can now answer a phone, turn down the radio and turn on speakerphone with just the press of a button instead of having to reach over and answer a phone placed on a passenger seat.

While car makers may attempt to limit distractions and make in-car electronic devices as easy to use as possible, distracted driving is a major cause of New York car accidents already.

This is especially true for teen drivers, who a New York Now article stated are up to 3 times more likely to send emails and text messages behind the wheel. New York personal injury lawyers hope that with new features in cars allowing for even more connectivity than ever before, that the number of distracted driving accidents do not increase.
