October 25, 2012 – Long Island, N.Y. – New York Daily News reported that a mother of three was struck and killed by a bus in Queens on Saturday, Oct. 13, at approximately 8 p.m.
Maleka Begum, 54, had been shopping with her daughter and was crossing near their home on Merrick Blvd. at Hillside Ave. when she was hit. The Nassau Inter-County Express N6 bus struck her after making a turn. Begum was killed instantly.
So far, police are not filing criminal charges against the 52-year-old bus driver. Yet a witness told NYDN that Begum had the right-of-way because she had a walk signal. He believes that the bus driver was at fault.
The fatal pedestrian accident is still being investigated. The bus driver was also ordered to take alcohol and drug test; the results were not known when the article went to press.
