Nursing Home Closed After Reports of Abuse Surround Resident’s Death

January 28, 2011 – Fair Oaks, CA – According to the website Fox40.com, the state of California has enforced the temporary closure of the Fair Oaks Nursing Home because of the death of an elderly woman. The family of the woman, Kyong Duncan, who was 73 years old, asserts that the death was the result of abuse Duncan suffered while in the care of the nursing home. The family also alleges that there is video evidence to support their claim.  The video in question shows a pair of Fair Oaks Nursing Home workers lifting Duncan from what appears to be the floor, and setting her down in a wheelchair. One of the workers then violently pulls the wheelchair backward.  Duncan’s family also claims that the nursing home staff drugged her.

An autopsy has revealed that at the time of Duncan’s death, she had a lethal dose of narcotics in her body, a drug that she was not prescribed. According to the attorney for the owners of the nursing home, they have no idea how the narcotic got into Duncan’s body.  Unfortunately, cases similar to this one happen in nursing homes throughout the country.
